Luke

Meet Luke While he currently lives in Logan Square, Luke calls Edgewater his home. He has lived in the Chicago area his entire life but if he could live elsewhere it would be Southern California. Originally working in a television equipment factory, Luke lost his vision at 22 due to a reason he did not want to share. After losing his vision Luke found a passionate career in the film development industry. Finding work at Saint Francis Hospital developing X-Rays as well as traditional camera film shops; Luke truly loved his job. Out of all his jobs he said that he loved working at the hospital most because he knew he was helping people and making an impact. But with the shift away from film and to digital media Luke soon found himself without a career. He now spends his time in Edgewater begging for money to cover what social security cannot pay for. Luke enjoys Hard Rock music and if he’s feeling like listening to something heavier he will listen to Metallica. His favorite movie is Top Gun but has an interest in any 80s or 90s film. His friend and neighbor Brian comes over and will describe the scenes to him. Please keep him in your prayers

Steve

Meet Steve Steve was born in Alabama and moved to Chicago when he was 12 with his mom. As an adult Steve moved back to Alabama and took on work as a landscaper and handyman. He truly enjoyed helping his elderly customers and spoke of how great it made him feel. Now at 50 years old Steve has lost his mother to cancer in may. He had come back to Chicago to care for his mother and say his goodbyes but with covid and her death Steve fell into a financial and emotional pit. When the rent couldn’t be paid and Steve moved on to the street, he soon became suicidal. He was ready to killing himself but found Christ before he could take his own life. Steve often times sleeps in front of The Art Institute of Chicago even though it is warmer in Lower Wacker Drive because he cannot stand the rat and possums. I learned from him that because of the Covid response space is very limited at shelters and it is a scramble to get a place to sleep much less a meal to eat. Steve’s outlook on the future is positive for himself though he refers to revelations when speaking of the future we may have as a nation and a world. He is looking to start his next chapter in life elsewhere in the country and hopes to get out of chicago soon. Please pray for him
